Traffic signals

December 12, 2017

Traffic situation of the country cannot be improved unless the government facilitate the traffic police. In absence of traffic signals and complete authority to traffic police to fine a vehicle, traffic personnel cannot do much to improve the traffic situation. Motorists ride on the wrong way, leave their cars parked on a busy road and break traffic signals without any fear because they know there is no law to stop them.

Unless wrongdoers are given exemplary punishment, the situation cannot be improved. Lahore Gate Chowk is a busy intersection. The heavy flow of traffic on the road often results in traffic congestion. The problem is further aggravated due to the fact that there is no traffic signal at the location. The authorities must install traffic signals so that the flow of traffic can be managed in an efficient manner.

Every day, a number of roads accidents occur because of unsafe conditions and hundreds of citizens lose their precious lives. One of the root causes includes unavailability of traffic signals ?or disappearance of the traffic police. For example, U-turn in front of the main gate of Margalla View Housing Society, Sector D-17 is being used by residents of this society to cross main GT Road to commute to Islamabad to attend offices, schools, colleges and universities.

There is no traffic signal installed at the U-turn. In fact, there is no policeman? to control heavy traffic coming from Rawalpindi/Islamabad and from Peshawar, Wah Cantt and Taxila. Commuters take a huge risk when they cross the dangerous road. Most of the times they face near miss ?accident. Would authorities concerned look into this critical issue and take appropriate measures to safe lives of residents of the housing society?
