The administration of Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) held a meeting with representatives of Young Doctors Association, BBH, on Saturday to convince the young doctors not to go on strike for hours daily at the outpatient department of the hospital for the sake of poor patients.
The young doctors at the BBH have been going on strike daily at OPD after 11 O’clock in the morning on the call of Young Doctors Association Punjab that has demanded foolproof security for staff in all hospitals serving under the Punjab government.
In the meeting, the medical superintendent at BBH Dr. Asif Qadir Mir informed the representatives of the young doctors of the sufferings of visiting patients because of daily strike.
“I told the young doctors that the patients visiting at the BBH OPD have to wait for hours for medical checkups because, due to absence of young doctors including postgraduate trainees and house officers, consultants and senior doctors have to face a huge burden of patients,” said Dr. Mir while talking to ‘The News’ on Saturday.
He added that the young doctors at Gynaecology department have not been going on strike for the sake of patients. I have asked the young doctors to minimize the time of strike if it is necessary for them, said Dr. Mir.
To a query, he said the young doctors have been observing strike in almost all hospitals of the province particularly in big cities including Rawalpindi. “The young doctors observe a token strike daily in the allied hospitals in town however we are trying to convince them to minimize the time of strike.”
He said that the representatives of the young doctors were convinced enough that the poor patients should not suffer because of their strike and I hope that they would go on strike for shorter period of time, for only half an hour, on Monday.
