CDA demolishes illegal building

Owner had been running illegal business since 1994 and later took stay order against CDA’s action

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Saturday carried out a grand operation to demolish building housing a students' hostel and a market in Sector G-10/4.
The CDA sources told 'The News' that owner of the building who was issued licence by the civic body to establish a 'Saw Machine' but instead he raised over half a dozen shops on the ground floor and students hostel on the first floor over an area of about three kanals. The owner of the building had been running the illegal business since 1994 and later took stay order from a court against CDA's action.
The enforcement wing and directorate of municipal administration started the joint operation on Saturday morning with the help of heavy machinery following vacation of stay order by the court. "Since 1994, the case of illegal business going on in G-10/4 was not actively pursued by the authority allowing illegal activity in heart of the city," the CDA sources said.
It has been learnt that the incumbent management of CDA has also ordered fact finding inquiry to as to how the illegal business continued for such a long time and which officials were responsible for the same. "Most of the responsible official might have retired from service but we should fix the responsibility at least," a senior officer of CDA said.
An official involved in the operation on Saturday said so far they have razed all the 15 rooms of the hostel on the first floor while the market contain over half a dozen shops of building material would be demolished on Sunday. During the operation, the enforcement team accompanied by police force, used three dozers and an excavator to demolish structure and remove debris.
"Before starting operation, we took furniture and other belongings and the whole building was got vacated to avoid any untoward incident," the official said.
