‘Sindh govt to implement 5pc job quota for disabled persons’
The Sindh government is taking all efforts to facilitate persons with disabilities, including the implementation of the 5 percent job quota for them in government service, said Minister for Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
Speaking at a seminar held in connection with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the minister said on Saturday that keeping the needs of disabled persons in mind, the government has directed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to not approve any construction plans for buildings which do not provide accessibility facilities for people with disabilities. The seminar was jointly organised by Helping Hands for Relief and Development (HHRD) and the Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation (NARF).
NARF President Prof Muhammad Wasay said that only 14 percent of people with disabilities were part of the national workforce, only 10 percent have access to rehabilitation facilities and only 17 percent have access to social and educational support.
