Iqbal’s ideology lauded
LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has said there is a need to follow Allama Iqbal’s ideology for bringing about change in the country.
He was addressing a seminar on Allama Iqbal held on the 147th foundation day of PU Oriental College at Old Campus on Friday. Allama Iqbal’s grandson Muneeb Iqbal, PU Faculty of Oriental Learning Dean Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Imam Khumeni University, Iran, Pro-Vice Chancellor Hameed Tahiri, Istanbul University’s Dr Khalil Toqar, Oriental College Principal Prof Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori and a large number of students were also present.
Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said Iqbal had called the youth “Shaheen.” Pakistani youth must work together for progress the country, he added. He said, "It is our pride that Allama Iqbal joined PU Oriental College." Muneeb Iqbal said the three most important contributions of Allama Iqbal to the creation of Pakistan were the motivation of the Muslims of the subcontinent through his poetry, presentation of the concept of Two-Nation theory and bringing Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah back to fight for Muslims’ rights. He said there was a dire need to understand the message given by Allama Iqbal. He clarified that the audio circulating on social media these days with a note that a poem was being recited by Allama Muhammad Iqbal was fake as Allama Iqbal never recorded any piece of his poetry. Hameed Tahiri said Allama Iqbal was a great poet. Iqbal was not only a philosopher but also sociologist, he added. Dr Khalil Toqar said, "Allama Iqbal is much popular in Turkey too and we benefit from the ideology of Allama Iqbal." He said Turkish people respected Pakistani nation the most as Pakistan had stood by Turkey in difficult times. He said, "We consider Allama Iqbal our own poet."
He said Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan cited the poetry of Allama Iqbal in his speeches. Earlier, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir cut a cake to celebrate the 147th foundation day of Oriental College.
reference: Punjab University’s Department of Social Work organised a reference to pay homage to the services of the late Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal Chaudhry, former chairman of the department.
According to a press release Dr Chaudhry, who passed away recently, served the PU for more than 35 years. Department of Social Work Chairman Dr Zahid Javed, Social Welfare Director General Waheed, Assistant Professor Sonia Omer, faculty members and students were present at the ceremony. The participants paid reached tribute to the services of Prof Chaudhry and offered Fateha for the departed soul. Meanwhile, PU Hailey College of Commerce organised a seminar “Role of Maqasid-Al-Shariah in Islamic Finance.” Noted scholar Dr Talat Hussain was the keynote speaker on the occasion.
