Bahria University sports week begins

KARACHI: The inter-departmental sports week of Bahria University started here on Tuesday. As many as 2,000 girls and boys will participate in competitions of cricket, hockey, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, tug of war, throwball, futsal and badminton, said Ashiq Hussain, sports head of Bahria University.
Director Bahria University Karachi campus Commodore Ali Abbas SI (M) was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Ali said that it was great to watch the spirit of the youngsters. He said that sports were necessary to remain healthy.
“We have produced some top quality national athletes in the past,” he said. Ashiq said there was much talent in the country which needs to be nourished. On the opening day, tug of war (boys) competition was won by geo physics department. Shenila Noor won the title of table tennis, defeating Mesha Jawad 2-0 in the final.
