PUNJAB Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that with a view to usefulness and success of Punjab Education Roadmap Programme, the same is being re-launched.
While addressing a high level, he further said the programme was being launched so that quality education could be provided, facilities be improved and students of Punjab be recognised as young leaders at the international level through child-friendly schooling.
Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, besides DCOs of Gujranwala, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Bahawalpur, Special Secretary Schools Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah and other officials were also present.
The meeting agreed that due to roadmap programme, educational situations had improved considerably in the province. The meeting was told that besides availability of missing facilities, overall enrolment ratio of students in schools had reached up to 92 percent due to this programme.
The minister said social role of school councils was of paramount importance adding vibrant and active persons including old boys of a particular school would be given representation in these school councils. He said result cards of students should be regularly dispatched to their parents so that they should remain informed about the educational performance of their children. The meeting also reviewed in detail the monitoring mechanism of schools.
Seminar: Senior journalist Sohail Warriach has said Pakistan is facing a challenge of terrorism with courage and every segment of society needs to play its role in overcoming it.
While speaking at a seminar “Terrorism and Role of Media” at Punjab University’s Institute of Communication Studies’ (ICS) on Thursday, he further said no power could defeat a country where there was an independent judiciary and free media.
Sohail Warriach said Pakistani media had been playing a positive role in elimination of terrorism from the country but still sometimes it sensationalised certain issues. He added that the media could exist only if it established and sustained its credibility.
In response to a question regarding the PEMRA rules, Sohail Warriach said the media in Pakistan was maturing and learning from its past mistakes. He said the media was an important part of a democratic and just society and without it no modern-day democracy could survive.
ICS In-charge Director Dr Noshina Saleem said Sohail Warriach was not only an excellent Journalist but also a teacher, an analyst and a writer who wrote several books on various socio-political topics including terrorism.
Later, a question-answer session was organised in which students put various questions to Sohail Warriach.
Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, Dr Waqar Malik, Dr Bushra Rahman, Shabbir Sarwar, and a large number of students were also present.
