Regularisation of 40,000 teachers approved in KP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan said that provincial cabinet has approved regularisation of 40,000 teachers recruited through National Testing Service.



Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 2nd batch of English Access Micro Scholarship Programme of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University at a hotel on Tuesday, he said that 17,000 more teachers would be recruited till completion of the tenure of the government.



Atif Khan was the chief guest at the ceremony while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, US Consulate General employees, students and faculty members also attended the event.



He said the government was focusing on female education and had decided to recruit women teachers in primary schools. Atif Khan said that 70 percent new schools had been approved for female while 30 percent for male.



The minister said the government had decided to award top three position holders of public sector schools with Rs1 million, Rs0.5 million and Rs0.3 million, respectfully. He said the government had established a new education institution Ecol Fatima Alfahry Girls Model School.



The school is the first of its kind in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over 87 kanal lands at a cost of Rs320.8 million. He said that Ecol Fatima Alfahry Girls Model School would have an autonomous body on the pattern of Fazlehaq College Mardan that provided standard education.



SBBWU Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Dr Razia Sultana informed the participants that the English Access Micro scholarship programme was a two-year programme for underprivileged students. He said the main objective of the programme was to strengthen Pak-US relationship and provided a change to the students to learn English language and gain knowledge about the US culture.



She said that this programme had boosted the confidence level of the students and enhanced their knowledge and skills. The vice-chancellor said that under this programme the university taught English language and imparted computer skills to the students. The students of government girl's higher secondary school Larama also made speeches and shared experiences of the course with the participants. The vice-chancellor and education minister awarded course completion certificates to the students.
