Constitutional amendment: Govt seeks PPP’s help in Senate

ISLAMABAD: As the government is facing difficulties in getting the constitutional amendment passed in the Senate for the delimitation of the constituencies, the government has sought help from the Pakistan people’s Party (PPP) to end the constitutional crisis.
Prime Minster Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has contacted Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah to get the PPP support for having the required strength in the Senate to pass the constitutional amendment.
During the meeting with Syed Khursheed Shah, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed his desire of having the meeting with the PPP leadership -- Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari — saying that he was willing to meet them or ready to contact them on the telephone.
Syed Khursheed replied that the matter was not in his hand but he should directly make the contact with the top party leadership. The prime minister insisted that Syed Khursheed Shah should play his role in arranging the contacts with the PPP leadership.
The opposition leader replied that he had conveyed the request to the party leadership and suggested that it would be better that the government should give the proposals in writing for the meeting.
