KPEZDMC board formed without representation of major estates

PESHAWAR: The provincial government reconstituted a 19-member board of directors of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) with no representation from the major industrial estates of the province.
The chief executive officer of Nayatel, owned by Rashid Khan who is a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, and the chairman of the Chief Minister Complaints Cell, also been put on the new board.
A notification, No AEA(IND)/ 13-28/, of the Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Department citing relevant provision of the Companies Act 2017, said that in supersession of the notification of May 21, 2015 it constituted the board.
The reconstitution of the KPEZDMC board was necessitated by the dissolution of the former 21-member board, which was headed by Ghulam Dastagir.
The new board was notified on Thursday by the Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Department.The reconstituted board would be headed by Fahim Wazir, secretary Industry, Commerce and Technical Education Department till further orders.
Other members of the board include secretaries Finance Department and Planning and Development (P&D) Department.Sahibzada Saeed, a retired civil servant and presently head of the Chief Minister Secretariat Strategic Support Unit (SSU), has also been made member of the new board of directors (BoD) of the KPEZDMC. He is also chairman of the Power and Energy Development Organisation (Pedo) and the BoD of Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) BoD. He has served the province on important positions including secretary finance.
Vice-chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, and director Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, have also been included in the BoD.Wahaj Siraj, CEO of the Nayatel Islamabad, a company reportedly owned by Rashid Khan, an associate of Imran Khan, and Dilroz of the Dilroz & Company, who is also chairman of the Chief Minister Complaints Cell, have been put on the board.
Faisal Saleem has also been named as member of the board. He is the scion of a renowned industrial family from Mardan and the son-in-law and nephew of former Member National Assembly (MNA) and leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) Nasimur Rehman. Faisal Saleem, who is also first cousin of provincial Education Minister Atif Khan, is associated with the PTI.
Anwar Khan, who is a salaried director of the Ghulam Farooq Group of Industries, has also been taken as member of the board. Shamama Arbab of the M/S Euro Industries, Peshawar has been retained as board member. She had also served on the previous KPEZDMC board.
Ihsanullah, ex-CEO Pakistan Stones Development and Export Company (PSDEC), Haji Iftikhar Ahmed, president Small Industries Association Abbottabad, Ejaz Yousaf, managing director, Kamangara Flour Millis, Peshawar, Adnan Jalil, M/S Al-Jabran Enterprise, Mohsin Rahim Khan and Shahidur Rehman are other members of the board. A representative of the Bank of Khyber would also be co-opted into the KPEZDMC board.
The major industrial estates such as the Hattar Industrial Estate in Haripur, Gadoon Amazai Industrial in Swabi, and Hayatabad Industrial Estate have been left out of the BoD. The premier chambers of commerce and industry in the province have also not been given representation on the newly constituted board.
