LAHORE: A three-day training workshop on “Outcome Based Education in Higher Education Institutions” concluded at the Government College University (GCU) on Thursday.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the concluding session. GCU Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) organised the workshop for young faculty members of GCU which was financed by the Learning Innovation Division, Higher Education Commission.
“All good things must come to an end but this end will lead to a new beginning in the university's classrooms,” said QEC Director Iram Sohail in her address at the concluding session. She said higher education was primarily focusing on the success of students. She said universities not only deliver knowledge to the students but also measure if students are indeed learning.
She said for fruitful outcome of instruction, teachers must clearly adjust their practices to address students' needs. Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said universities were not tuition centres where focus was only on rote learning, the QEC was making special efforts to equip the young faculty members with latest pedagogical skills. “Educational goals keep changing, terminology keeps changing and as time goes expectations from educational institutions also keep changing, and now it is time for outcome based education,” he said. Later, the Vice Chancellor distributed certificates among the participants. Meanwhile, the GCU has awarded PhD degree to Hafiz Muhammad Qais-ullah in Urdu.
