CHARSADDA: Accusing Imran Khan of introducing foul language in politics, Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan on Saturday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief had been an outstanding cricketer, but he couldn’t become an accomplished politician.
“Imran Khan didn’t bother to provide any proof when he levelled allegations of corruption against Nawaz Sharif and his family. “However, when Member National Assembly (MNA) Ayesha Gulalai made accusations against Imran Khan, he refused to surrender his cell-phone to help investigate the allegations,” he told a public gathering in Utmanzai area here.
ANP provincial President Ameer Haider Hoti, Joint Secretary Aimal Wali Khan, party’s district President Arshad Abdullah, Alamgir Khan, Shakil Bashir Khan, Qasim Alizai, Tehseen Abdullah and other local leaders and workers were present on the occasion.
He said Imran Khan should have taken exception to the stripping of a teenaged girl in Dera Ismail Khan instead of issuing a show-cause notice to MNA Dawar Kundi, who was made the scapegoat in the name of discipline.
Asfandyar Wali also came down hard on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, saying he deprived Pakhtuns of their due share in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
“Only a road is being built in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under CPEC. We want the corridor, not the road,” he said.
Asfandyar Wali said the PML-N-led federal government would have to do away with the notion that Punjab was Pakistan.
“The federal government should take steps to end the rising sense of deprivation among the smaller units of the federation,” he said, adding that all the provinces should be given control over their resources to make Pakistan stronger.
About the proposed merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said that his party would strive to help the tribespeople get their due rights. “We will not abandon our tribal brethren in their efforts to get the British-era Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) abolished,” he maintained.
He said that Fata should be merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the earliest as delaying this issue would frustrate the tribal population.
The ANP chief also urged the Pakistani and Afghan governments to talk out their differences for the sake of peace and prosperity.
Khudai Khidmatgar Movement founder Bacha Khan had warned against the use of violence, but his advice was not heeded at the time, the ANP chief added. He said that Bacha Khan believed in the philosophy of non-violence. “Bacha Khan knew that violence begets violence that has now engulfed this whole region,” he noted.
