Workshop on laparoscopic surgery held at HMC

PESHAWAR: Senior and junior doctors at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) took a keen interest in a laparoscopic surgery workshop wherein prominent laparoscopic surgeons from Pakistan and abroad shared their experiences and skills.
With the objective of training its faculty to the highest standards of patient care and imparting valuable teaching to doctors from all over the province and across the border from Afghanistan, the surgical department of (HMC) organised a four-day Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop.
The workshop was held from November 13 to 16, in which orthopaedic and spine department took two days to discuss hip and knee arthroplasty operations.
Trainers from the HMC and other parts of the country as well as the United Kingdom were involved in in the event. Live minimal surgical procedures were transmitted from HMC theatres to demonstration rooms, involving high tech surgical and relay equipment.
?The doctors watching the live laparoscopic surgery took keen interest and asked relevant questions during the surgical procedure. HMC Medical Director Prof Dr Shehzad Akbar said the world had moved onto advanced keyhole surgery and joint replacement procedures and this effort on the part of the HMC would help the local faculty keep abreast with all these advanced operations, which include heptobilary, urological, colorectal and bariatric specialties as well as orthopaedic procedures.
He described the exercise as part of the hospitals' human resource development programme and a proof of the fact that the reforms were focused not only on infrastructure development and purchase of advanced equipment but also improvement of patient care and training of faculty members.
