Capacity building plan for journalists of KP, Fata launched

PESHAWAR: Journalists Welfare, Safety and Development Foundation (JWSDF) on Thursday launched a capacity training programme for journalists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.
Secretary Information Qaiser Alam Khan was the chief guest at the launching ceremony.
JWSDF patron-in-chief Syed Bukhar Shah, capacity building in-charge Nisar Mehmood and Chairman Ali Hazrat Bacha, information officers including Director General Public Relations Syed Amir Hussain Shah, representatives of various press clubs, office-bearers of the foundation attended the ceremony.
Qaiser Alam said the skill development plan for working journalists was a commendable step. He suggested initiating a joint venture by relevant government departments, academia, and the journalists’ foundation to build up the capacity of journalists.
Nisar Mehmood talked about significance of the proper training to build professional skills of journalists and secure their lives as well.
He stressed the need for proper training of working journalists to enhance their skills. He urged the representatives of media to ensure their safety first while performing the professional duties.
Former president of the Peshawar Press Club Syed Bukhar Shah stressed the need for increase in wages and provision of health facilities.
Earlier, the JWSDF chairman briefed the participants about objectives of the foundation. He said JWSDF started functioning three years ago and conducted capacity building trainings for working journalists.
Besides, he said, the foundation planned to launch vocational training and self-employment programmes for widow and orphans children of martyred journalists.
He presented a number of demands and recommendations before the provincial government, including allocation annual grant-in-aid for JWSDF, health facilities, provision of sewing machines for daughters of deceased journalists, one-time grant for capacity building plan.
