LAHORE
A mentally retarded man slaughtered his wife and committed suicide by hanging himself to a fan in his bedroom in the Mustafa Abad police limits on Wednesday.
The accused was identified as Waseem, 40, and the woman as Yasmeen, 35. The couple married six years ago and had one-and-a-half-year old daughter Mudaira. Waseem was a painter and suffering from mental illness, the police said.
There was a Mahndi function of the two nieces of the accused at the night of the incident. After the function, all the family members went to their rooms to sleep. The couple lived in the third floor of the house. The next day at around 11 am, one of the family members went to their room to wake them, but he found them dead.
Their minor daughter was lying asleep besides her mother. Ghulam Abass, brother of victim Yasmeen, said his sister had expressed fear that her husband was a psycho and he would kill her. So, she had left his house and was living with her parents, he told. A few days ago, the elders of the accused went to her parents and requested them to send their daughter to their home to participate in marriage ceremonies, he added.
Tanveer, elder brother of the accused, said his brother was taking medicines for mental illness.
SHO SI Khalid Mehmood told journalists circumstantial evidence suggested that the man slaughtered his wife before killing himself. Families Yasmeen and Waseem refused to take any legal action.
MAN FOUND DEAD: A 40-year-old man was found slaughtered in the Sherakot police limits. Police registered a case on the complaint of Asiya Bibi, wife of victim Ayub. He had six children. A passerby informed the police about the body lying near Talat Park.
POLICE FAIL TO ARREST MURDERER: Mughalpura police failed to arrest the murderer of a railway worker.
Accused Yaseen had stabbed Ali Khan to death on a minor dispute on Tuesday. Mughalpura Police Inspector Ilyas said the police were conducting raids to arrest the accused.
