IST celebrates 12th commencement
Islamabad :Institute of Space Technology (IST) celebrated its 12th Commencement of Class of 2017 with the graduation of 246 students in the disciplines of Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Science & Engineering and Space Science here on Thursday at Pak-China Friendship Centre.
Muhammad Irfan Burney, Advisor SPD graced the occasion as the chief guest. Senior dignitaries from the civil and military establishments were also present on the occasion. The chief guest conferred the students, with the Masters and Baccalaureate degrees in their respective fields of specialisation.
The chief guest gave away the President of Pakistan Gold Medals to Daniyal Khan, Tehseen un Nisa, Haseeb Ramzan and Muhammad Zubair of Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical and Materials Science & Engineering respectively and Ms Nazeela Aimen of Space Science, who stood first in their respective programs. Vice Chancellor’s Medals for Best Projects were awarded to Waleed and Ayaz from Aerospace, Saifullah and Adnan from Electrical, Sajjad and Saad from Mechanical, Shehryar and Ali from Materials Science and Engineering and Khushlim & Zara from Space Science.
The chief guest congratulated all the graduates specially the award winners and position holders. He advised the graduating students that since the modern era outlines subtle transition and flux in almost all walks of life, it is imperative for them to revisit their goals as engineers and create space for the self-sustaining human society. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts being made by IST’s team towards achieving academic excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Engr. Imran Rahman, highlighted the many achievements of IST including the fact that all its engineering programs have been accredited under the Washington Accord. He also commended the graduating students and advised them to devote themselves in fulfilling their social, moral and national obligations.
Later in an equally impressive Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, students were awarded trophies, medals & certificate for their outstanding performance in academics and extra & co-curricular activities by Dr. Junaid Zaidi, Executive Director COMSATS.
