PESHAWAR: The police have recovered a nine-year old girl who was kidnapped by a stranger from the limits of Badaber Police Station in 2014.

The girl identified as Iqra was made to beg in various cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The accused, Kamil belonging to Bannu, had broken her finger and repeatedly tortured her. He travelled to different cities in the province for begging and took her along with him.

“A few days back, Iqra went missing when she was begging in the limits of City Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan. And Kamil approached the police to claim that she was his daughter,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Badaber, Yasin Khan told a press conference on Tuesday.

However, he added that the girl told the police that the man was not her father as he had kidnapped her from Peshawar. The accused claimed that she was angry with him and that was the reason she was saying so.

“The SHO City in Dera Ismail Khan told the man to bring her mother or any other relative to take her along. The girl was meanwhile handed over to a local man to take care of her. He posted her picture on Facebook and it was seen by her family in Peshawar who rushed to Dera Ismail Khan to collect her. We also sent our team to bring back the girl to Peshawar,” Shehryar Khan, Station House Officer (SHO) of Badaber Police Station said.

The SHO added that the kidnapper was also arrested in a raid.

“He had been living in a local mosque in Badaber since long before kidnapping the girl when she was seven-year old. The family looked for her everywhere and finally lodged a complaint with the police in 2014. Now she is reunited with family after three years,” added Shehryar Khan, the SHO.
