In a small western district of KP, Kohat, August 14 was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm. However what caught my attention was the carelessness of young boys. Many minor children were found riding motorcycles. They were travelling from place to place, honking horns unnecessarily and indulging in one wheeling. They were not only putting their lives at risk, but of other motorists and commuters as well. Is this the only way of celebrations? That is why our youth is unaware of our history and the sacrifices laid by our elders for the creation of Pakistan. It is true that many programmes are held in big cities that focus on the retelling of the events that led to the partition. However, in majority of areas, children and young men waste the entire day doing mindless activities. The local administration along with the local bodies and educationists must channelise their efforts to conduct educational and cultural programmes at all levels to highlight the essence of this most important day of our history.
It is saddening that we have become a disorganised nation and the only thing that we have learnt is to become a tool of political parties and shout foul slogans against. Therefore it is important that our young generation is educated about the importance of this day.
