Waseem Khatri clinches Independence Day Scrabble title
KARACHI: Waseem Khatri staged a remarkable recovery to take the title at the Independence Day Scrabble Tournament played here at Beach Luxury hotel.
After a poor showing on day one, Pakistan’s No 1 Waseem showed great determination to ward off stiff challenge from a host of young players.It was a day of upsets with stunning recoveries and spectacular failures.
Waseem took the title with 13 wins and a spread of 1517. Teenage sensation Abdullah Abbasi took the second position with 13 wins and a spread of 892. The star of the day was Ahad Riaz who came out of nowhere to take the third position. Ahad also won 13 matches and had a spread of 528.
Rashid Khan, Tariq Pervez and Imaad Ali each won 12 matches. The leader of the day one Moiz had to be content with the seventh spot. In ‘Group B’ matches, Ali Wasif was the winner with 15 wins, while Noor Shaukat and Hammad Hamid finished second and third respectively.
