KARACHI: Cricket fever is gripping the Indian subcontinent and will be at its highest for the people of Pakistan and India when the two teams clash in their World Cup match on 15 February.
According to a report in The Asian Age, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan will join India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev and Harsha Bhogle in the commentary box for the match of the South Asian arch-rivals.
The Pakistani enthusiasts applauded the choice, saying it would add to the excitement when Amitabh’s mesmerising voice would be on air.
But at the same time Pakistani cricket fans want a personality having similar fame and popularity in Pakistan to commentate to counter this Indian move.
But it is a fact that Pakistan does not have any artist of the stature of Amitabh. So some cricket lovers have proposed that Pakistan’s greatest sports hero Imran Khan should be involved in commentary during the encounter.
Imran is leading the country’s third largest political entity, PTI. Irrespective of his political stature, there is no one who may deny his services for the country in cricket. Imran will be a better commentator than Amitabh as he has been a cricketer himself.
Cricket fans appealed to Imran to reserve time on February 15 for this match and participate as an expert during the broadcast.
The participation of Imran Khan will not only boost the courage and strength of Misbah-led Pakistani cricket team but will also fill the entire nation with thrill.
Cricket fans said although Imran was busy in politics and was newly married, he can spare one day for this job because his voice would be listened in all the cricketing nations and would be a solid response to the Indian move.
