Sacrifices of Shuhada in war on terror won’t go waste: COAS

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of police, saying that the sacrifices rendered by the Shuhada would not go waste.

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor, in a message on twitter on Police Shuhada (martyrs) Day, paid rich tributes to the police martyrs saying, “Salute to Shuhadas of Police and their brave families from Pak Armed Forces.”

According to the ISPR, the Pakistan Army imparted counter-terrorism training to over 60,000 police personnel across the country.It said that over 17,000 police officials were trained by the army in Sindh, 20,000 in Punjab, 18,000 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,000 in Balochistan, 600 in Islamabad, 2,200 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and over 150 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Martyrs Day is being observed for the third consecutive year on the death anniversary of Shaheed Safwat Ghayur, the then commandant of Frontier Constabulary, KP Police, who was martyred in a suicide attack on his vehicle near the paramilitary force headquarters on August 4, 2010.

FC Commandant Liaquat Ali, along with FC contingents, visited the grave of Shaheed Safwat Ghayur on Friday where they gave a guard of honour to the slain hero and offered Fateha and laid a wreath on his grave.

Addressing the media later, FC Commandant Liaquat Ali said that 356 personnel of the FC had been martyred and 551 injured in the war against terrorism.He said that the jawans had participated bravely in different operations and their efforts and sacrifices have led to an improvement in the peace and security situation in the region.
