‘Unity of command in police essential for better results’
Unity of command in the police department is important and there should be consistency in the serving terms of law enforcers to ensure their better performance, said the Karachi Corps commander on Thursday.
Lt Gen Shahid Baig Mirza said this during his visit to the Malir Cantonment, where he observed police training. He was accompanied by Sindh police chief IGP AD Khowaja and Malir General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Zahid Mehmood.
Mirza said the recent police training had set new standards for law enforcers, adding that the role of the city’s police officials in restoring peace in the metropolis was commendable.
Less than a week ago, Khowaja had written to the chief minister to raise his concerns about alleged intervention in the affairs of the provincial law enforcement agency.
The police chief pointed out in his letter that a number of administrative orders were issued by the home and services general administration & coordination departments in the past month that undermined his administrative control over the police officers, including the power to grant casual leave to his subordinates.
He claimed that a number of staff officers serving at the Central Police Office were called in by the home department and unnecessarily pressurised, adding that the situation was leading to weak command and control over subordinates.
