KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan said that parents should let their daughters play sports.

“My daughter likes to play cricket. She may take cricket seriously and play cricket in future. I think we should let our daughters play sports,” Younis said during a reception hosted by Omar Associates, owners of Quetta Gladiators, in honour of Champions Trophy winners.

Younis, the only player from Pakistan to cross 10,000-run milestone in Test cricket, praised squash legend Jahangir Khan on the occasion and said that he wanted his son to play squash.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarfraz praised the services of Nadeem Omar of Omar Associates for his services to cricket and other sports.

He also showered praises on Quetta Gladiators team manager Azam Khan, who is credited for having groomed talented cricketers in Karachi, including Sarfraz himself, Anwar Ali, and Asad Shafiq.

Sarfraz, who has been appointed captain of the Test side as well following the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq, said that he would try to help the national team win more laurels in the future.

Nadeem pointed out that the nation now focuses on cricket only, which is not a good thing. “There was a time when we used to watch cricket. If cricket events weren’t happening then we would watch our national sport hockey. If there were no hockey events, we would watch squash or snooker. But now other sports are suffering so we should also pay attention to them,” Nadeem said.

Besides Sarfraz, Hasan Ali, Fakhr Zaman and Rumman Raees were also honoured during the ceremony and given cash prizes. Hasan played a major role in Pakistan’s victory as he took 13 wickets in five matches. Fakhar Zaman starred with the bat, scoring 252 in four innings, hitting one century and two fifties. Rumman, who played the semi-final against England in the absence of injured Mohammad Amir, took two important wickets in the match. Jahangir Khan was also present on the occasion with several other sports personalities.
