LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday took notice of lawyers misbehaving with Multan bench Justice Qasim Khan and ordered all the judges to halt work at the bench.
According to a press release issued by the LHC, Multan LHC Bar Association President Sher Zaman Qureshi along with a lawyer misbehaved with the judge, removed his nameplate and trampled it under their feet. Later, Sher Zaman announced a strike at the bar, the press release said.
Taking notice of the humiliation of the judge, the CJ asked all the LHC judges at Multan to stop work as well as halt filing new cases. The CJ called all the LHC judges to Lahore and ordered that new cases relating to Multan would be filed at Lahore and the Multan judges will hear them at Lahore instead of Multan. The CJ also constituted a two-member committee comprising Justice Yawar Ali and Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi to take action against the lawyers, the press release says.
PBC Vice Chairman Ahsan Bhoon has also been informed about the ugly incident and asked to initiate proceedings against the lawyers. The LHC said the senior lawyers could meet the two-member committee within 24 hours, otherwise proceedings would start in the light of principles laid down in the Tariq Aziz case.
