ATC seeks evidence from Rangers against 26 MQM workers
Karachi: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday directed the Sindh Rangers to submit evidence against 26 Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers in cases related to possession of illegal arms and explosive material at the next court hearing scheduled for August 12.
The MQM workers were arrested on March 11, 2015 when the Rangers had raided the party’s headquarters Nine Zero and its adjoining areas.
The court has already accepted an amended charge sheet after 52 cases of similar nature against the accused were presented together on the requested of the party worker’s lawyer, Advocate Muhammad Jeewani.
Jeewani had argued that almost all cases were identical and it was fair to treat them as a single major case.
He had also requested the court to accept the amended charge sheet in these cases against Ubaid K2, Amir alias Sarphata, Faisal alias Mota, Shabbir Ahmed alias Farhan Mullah and other workers, who are facing cases pertaining to possession of illegal arms and other charges.
Faisal alias Mota, who was an absconding convict in the Wali Khan Babar muder case, was also arrested during the raid at the MQM’s headquarter. Amir alias Sarphata, Shakeel Banarsi and Amir Taili were also booked in the illegal arms cases.
