‘Computerised FIR system ensures transparency’
LAHORE: Computerised 714 police stations in 36 districts of Punjab have registered 850,027 FIRs during the past 30 months, which has eliminated the chances of tampering due to Quick Response (QR) Code and has ensured transparency of the process.
This was stated by Dr Umar Saif, founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU), Chairman PITB and the Adviser to the CM, while reviewing the progress of PITB’s Police Station Record Management System – PSRMS (FIR Management System) on Monday.
Dr Umar Saif expressed his satisfaction over the process for establishing access to the Lahore High Court to this system and directed the officials concerned that after judiciary this access should be extended to prosecution and prisons to develop an integrated system for speedy action. The system would also enable to assess the workload on investigation officers and to streamline the judicious distribution of work among the officials, he added.
FIR cycle complaint management system initiated as pilot project in January 2015 and formally launched in the whole Punjab registered 8424 motor vehicle, 871 accident, 393 dacoits and 17 abduction for ransom cases. It is an online web application to digitize and maintain the record of a complete FIR cycle and all police registers. It includes FIRs registration - its complete life cycle (FIR launch, nomination of culprits, case files, court proceedings and case closure) and all the police station registers in one application. The tracking system enables the complainants to know the status of the actions taken on their reports.
FIRs are accessible by the authorised person within few seconds containing all the FIR details. It is integrated externally with Nadra and internally with other MIS modules built under this flagship project i.e. Anti-Vehicle Lifting System (AVLS), Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) and Criminal Record Office (CRO), which has so far electronically preserved 39,2084 fingerprints of the criminals. PITB and Punjab police have established this application for Sindh Police and it’s also operational there. Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan governments have requested for the same in their provinces.
