Imran warns of calling workers if Sharifs hinder justice

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan ‘predicted’ again on Sunday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will go to Adiala Jail, as he hinted at giving a call to his workers to intervene, if the dispensation of justice was impeded by the rulers.

Speaking to a PTI workers convention here, Imran asserted, while addressing Premier Nawaz, “You will not go to Jeddah this time, but to Adiala Jail." He also maintained that they would either celebrate victory in Islamabad or take to the streets against the PML-N leadership after the apex court decided the Panama Papers case.

Referring to Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, Imran claimed that the team had come up with evidence, showing Maryam Nawaz as the beneficiary owner of Nielson and Nescol firms but also the London apartments. He added that the JIT had also come forward with evidence that Nawaz also owned a company while the Gulf Steel possessed no funds.

He charged that the apex court was misled by furnishing trust deeds of Maryam and Hussain Nawaz in the Calibri font. And he added instead of replying to it, strong voices were raised of a conspiracy against democracy and the government.

The PTI leader complained that whoever tried to file cases against the Sharifs, this was dubbed as a conspiracy against democracy. “None betrayed the nation, as did the Sharifs by ruining the state institutions to hide their corruption,” he went on to allege and added that they played with parliament and now were saying they were trying to save democracy.

Imran pointed out that the job completed by the JIT was never done before against a powerful ruler. He added the  team in 60 days had left no doubt about the Sharifs’ assets. Continuing verbal attacks on the Sharif family amid charged audience, Imran highlighted what he called the ‘lies’ of Sharif family on Calibri font, Gulf Steel Mills and conspiracy claims. “The SECP chairman was also caught tampering with their sugar mills record,” he affirmed.

Imran claimed that their biggest success from the 2014 sit-in to the present day, was creation of awareness among masses and said his was not a political bout but his contest was with a mafia.

“For NS (Nawaz Sharif) democracy is only a tool to be used to save his corruption. Scratch the surface and & a closet dictator stands exposed,” Imran said in a message on social media. He added that the government was running so scared of the PTI, it sends police to prevent PTI function in closed doors of a marquee. “PML-N fascism reveals itself again,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, PTI Spokesperson Fawad Hussain Chaudhry has said that not the JIT, but the Supreme Court would announce its judgement in the Panama case. However, so far, no objections had been filed against the JIT report.

Fawad alleged that like in their previous tenures, the Sharif family had been indulging in money laundering from 2008 onwards as well. He pointed out that from 2010 to 2015, through a company, over Rs1 billion were gifted to Nawaz Sharif, of which he gifted Rs 820 million to his daughter Maryam while Rs100 million were also given to the PML-N.

Fawad claimed that the Sharif family was in search of a new team of lawyers, as other lawyers had declined to appear before the apex court with regards to the Panama case. He wondered how could Panama case be a conspiracy against the Sharif family while, they were in power, their business got massive boost.

He advised the ministers to first go through the JIT report, which, he added, was being translated into Urdu. He said that they should read translation of terms ‘it seems’ and ‘most likely’ to understand their meanings. He informed the ministers that it was not the JIT, but the Supreme Court was to announce judgement in the PanamaLeaks case. Fawad wished the ministers to first study the JIT report and then make comment on its contents.  Referring to some media reports, he noted that some sensible people in the ruling PML-N had started talking about resignation of Nawaz Sharif as prime minister. He advised those defending the Sharif family to better be loyal to Pakistan. Fawad was hopeful that the apex court would announce its judgement in a week or so.
