Pakistan re-elected to UN environment body
Islamabad: Permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Environment Programme Raza Bashir Tarar has been unanimously re-elected as the vice chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) Bureau from the Asia Pacific Group for the period 2017-2019.
The development comes during the 139th CPR meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya. Pakistan’s Mission in Nairobi is accredited as the permanent mission to the United Nations Office in Nairobi, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Programme.
Led by a five-member bureau elected for a two-year-period, the CPR comprises all permanent representatives to the UNEP. Tarar said the re-election was a manifestation of the trust reposed in Pakistan by members of the Asia Pacific Group and reflects Pakistan’s commitment to environmental issues. He said he also held the chair of G77 and China’s Nairobi chapter.
