Islamabad: While forecasting another rainy spell in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for the next 48 hours, the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Tuesday warned of landslides in hilly areas.

According to a spokesman for the PMD, more rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in scattered places of Islamabad, upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar and Kohat divisions, FATA, upper parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday.

He also said thundershowers would fall at a few places in Sahiwal and Bahawalpur divisions. The weatherman warned the intermittent rains could cause landslides in hilly areas of upper KP, including Malakand and Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days.

He said all relevant authorities should remain alert on Wednesday and Thursday to handle possible occurances due to the rainy spell. The PMD has already issued a weather advisory saying July is likely to see normal monsoon rainfall, while there is a high probability of localised rain spells, which may generate flash floods in mountainous and sub-mountainous regions.
