Never forget

The Bahawalpur oil tanker tragedy shook the entire nation to its core. At least 180 people were burnt alive and other 200 got critical burns when the oil tanker exploded and enveloped the hapless people. It is feared that the death toll could climb further because many of the victims are still in serious condition. As the incident took place just a day before Eid, the entire nation felt deep agony, grief and pain for the victims and their families. Although the police officials reached at the site of the incident well in time, they failed to keep the ill-fated people away from the spot.

Keeping in view the track record of such ominous incidents, it is imperative that the concerned authorities should have taken some stern steps to avoid the mishap. Had the authorities cordoned off the area well on time, such huge loss of life could have been prevented. Through electronic and print media, the government should create awareness among the people to avoid the recurrence of such epic tragedies.
