A judge of a district and sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for carrying an unlicensed weapon.
The convict, Kamran, was found guilty of possessing an illegal weapon – a pistol – and a judge of an additional district and sessions court sentenced him to serve a total of 10 years behind bars.
While the judge found Kamran guilty on possession charges, the convict was cleared of charges of attacking a police team with an intention to kill. According to the prosecution, the convict was arrested by law enforcers who recovered an unlicensed pistol from his possession.
The judge, while pronouncing the verdict, observed that the prosecution successfully established its case against the accused beyond any shadow of doubt. The court also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 on the convict which, if unpaid, would translate into an additional six-month imprisonment.
