It is a fact that a large number of schools, particularly in southern region of Punjab, do not have electricity facility. To tackle this issue, the Punjab government has decided to use the solar energy technology to provide electricity to over 20,000 schools in the rural areas of the province. According to media reports, schools – without or inadequate electricity facility – will be provided with solar panels so that they can have access to electricity. As a result, thousands of students and teachers will benefit from this unique project.
It is hoped that the process of identifying the schools that are going to be provided with solar panels is completed at the earliest and panels are installed in approved schools during the ongoing summer holidays. This way, when students will be back from the break, they will be surprised to find out that their schools now have uninterrupted electricity. This is a useful, innovative and productive use of solar energy technology and the students will be able to study in better environment.
