Four schemes approved

The government approved four development schemes of various sectors with an estimated cost of Rs 3338.841 million.   The development schemes included: Construction of Parking Plaza GT Road, Gujranwala (Revised) at the cost of Rs 499.450 million, Detailed Design and Construction Supervision of Water Supply System, Gujrat (Vol-I&II) (Revised) at the cost of Rs 776.310 million, Water Supply Scheme Chakwal Based on Khai Dam (Revised) at the cost of Rs 1023.865 million and Urban Sewerage / Drainage PCC Slab & Brick Pavement in Bhakkar City at the cost of Rs 1039.216 million.

 

Hot, dry weather to continue

Hot and dry weather continued to prevail in the city on Tuesday while the Met office predicted similar weather conditions during the next 24 hours.   The Met officials said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. However, a shallow westerly wave is present over upper parts of the country and likely to move eastwards during next 24 hours. The Met office predicted mainly hot and dry weather in most parts of the country while rain-thunderstorm is expected at a few places in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Multan, DI khan divisions, lower Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas. Rainfall was observed at various cities including Lower Dir, Drosh, Balakot, Rawalpindi (Chaklala, Shamsabad), Islamabad (Z.P, Bokra, Saidpur),Mangla, Multan, Kamra and Muzaffarabad. Tuesday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Dadu, Sibbi and Larkana where mercury reached 46°C while in Lahore it was 39°C, minimum was 26.6°C.

 

Cops asked to be polite with people

CHAKWAL: District Police Officer (DPO) M Haroon Joya Tuesday asked police officials to be polite with the people. Addressing a cash prizes and certificates distribution ceremony at Police Lines Chakwal, the DPO said police is not only a force but a social service as well. He asked the cops to take stern action against criminals, not innocent people. The officials who performed well during past months were awarded prizes and commendation certificates. The DPO said sacrifices offered by the Chakwal police against hardened criminals have improved the image of the Chakwal police in the people.

 

Jor Mela concludes

NANKANA SAHIB: Jor Mela concluded here at gurdawara Janmasthan Nankana on Tuesday. Indian Sikh Yatrees left for Lahore amid tightened security. Talking to reporters, Indian Sikh Yatrees group leader Sardar Sukhwinder Singh acknowledged love and care accorded to them by Pakistani people and authorities. He also thanked the government of Pakistan for better renovation of gurdawaras in the country.

 

Mother, son injured

PAKPATTAN: A woman and her son were inflicted injuries over a petty issue in Chak 51/SP on Tuesday. Reportedly, Muhammad Imran was playing outside his house when three accused came and started beating the boy. When his mother Nusrat Banu intervened, the accused also tortured her.

 

Transfers, postings

The Punjab government on Tuesday issued a notification for transfers and postings of the following officers.  Teachers Training Prgramme Project Director Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik has been transferred and posted as schools secretary while he would also have additional charge of project director of Teachers Training Prgramme till further orders.  Muhammed Akram, awaiting posting, has been posted as section officer, Planning and Development. Tanveer Yazdani, Kehror Lal Essen assistant commissioner has been transferred and posted as Ahmedpur Sial AC.  The additional charge of the office of Kehror Lal Essen AC has been given to AC HR Hafiz Suleman Tanvir till further orders.

 

House burnt

Household items, including furniture, were reduced to ashes when a fire broke in a house in the Subzazar area on Tuesday.  The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters rushed extinguished it after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.

 

Girl kidnapped

A girl was kidnapped on Tuesday. Reportedly, accused Basharat Ali and his accomplices abducted the sister of Shah Rasool of Arifwala when she went to attempt her paper at MC Girls High School, Arifwala. Police have registered a case.

 

CM grieved

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Ch Manzoor Ahmad, former Punjab IGP.   In a condolence message, the CM prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.

 

Accused summoned in kidnapping case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Tuesday summoned accused by June 20 in Shahbaz Taseer kidnapping case.   The court adjourned the hearing after police submitted its report based on the statement of Shahbaz Taseer. The court had consigned the case to record in 2014. Later, it was reopened while allowing an application filed by one of the accused, Usman. Shahbaz Taseer, son of slain former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, was recovered in March 2016, nearly five years after his abduction in 2011 from Lahore.

 

PML-Q, JI to convene roundtable conference

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have decided to convene roundtable conference after Eid-ul-Fitr in view of the current political situation in the country.  JI Chief Siraj-ul-Haq called on the central leaders of PML-Q at their residence in Lahore. The leaders from the two sides saw eye to eye to have elections reforms issue in the roundtable conference. Chaudhry Shujaat said it was Supreme Court of Pakistan, not Joint Investigation Team (JIT), that would decide the Panama case. If the opposition parties are geared up, the anti-government movement will definitely be waged, the two sides expressed unanimity.  Later, talking to media, Siraj-ul-Haq demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif not to exercise his executive powers so that investigations were carried out in a transparent manner.  If the court clears him, he will have his mandate,” he added.
