Pakistan ranking improves by four points in WEF
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has witnessed improvement by four points from 126th to 122nd position in the corruption perception index 2016-17 as compared to previous year, as per Annual Global Competitiveness report of World Economic Forum 2016-17.
This was stated by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry during a meeting with Amir Jehangir, CEO, Mishal and representative of World Economic Forum.
NAB chairman said the country's anti-corruption policies were yielding better results and its ranking was improving for the last three years. He said NAB officials were putting in their all energies and taking all possible measures to uproot the menace of corruption from the society. "As a result of these, the position is improving," he remarked.
He said the Global Competitiveness Index of World Economic Forum (WEF) would help improve Pakistan's image among the nations. He said corruption affects the common man, describing the general public 'worst sufferers' when the funds supposed to be utilised for their welfare were misappropriated. "So, the improvement in Pakistan's ranking, will be ultimately beneficial for the common man," he said.
The chairman said the improvement in Annual Global Competitiveness report of WEF 2016-17 would also reflect in corruption perception index of the Transparency International. Mishal CEO and representative of WEF said that the important aspect of Annual Global Competitiveness report of WEF 2016-17 report is that the institutions, which undertaken reforms and communicated well with the stakeholders, has shown great improvements.
