JUSTICE Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court Tuesday issued notice to the federal government challenging the provisions of Hindu Inheritance Law under which women have been deprived of right of inheritance.
A Hindu woman Sonia moved the petition. Petitioner’s counsel submitted that it was 1929 Act, which had already been discarded in the largest Hindu state of India and deprived the woman of her inheritance right. She said as Hindus did not have representation in the parliament, she was compelled to approach this court. She said the Constitution gave equal rights to all minorities and Hindu women could not be deprived of their inheritance right.
