Islamabad
Already agitated by the intense heat, Islooites especially those out on the streets saw sweat drip from their bodies on Sunday as the day was the hottest of the current summer season in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad thus far.
The mercury touched the 45 degree Celsius mark in Islamabad, said weathermen.
A day ago, the maximum temperature in the capital city was recorded at 43 degree Celsius.
The mercury was even slightly higher in Rawalpindi i.e. 46 degree Celsius.
Though a weekend, most of the people opted to stay indoors during the daytime to claim little respite from the intense heat especially while fasting.
They stepped out for shopping after ‘iftar’ time post sunset.
Amid these hard weather conditions, the Pakistan Meteorological Department sees a respite in the shape of showery spell at hand.
"Though hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country and very hot weather in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during the next 24 hours during daytime, rain coupled with thunderstorm and strong winds is expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi divisions, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir in the evening or at night," Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting officer Muhammad Ayaz on Sunday afternoon. The weatherman said there was a high likelihood of the rains continuing until Wednesday.
