Dry, hot weather predicted

LAHORE: Dry and hot weather continued to prevail in the provincial capital here on Thursday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for Friday (today).

The city also received a trace rain in several areas but the rain failed to stop the rising mercury. Met officials said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly trough is still affecting Kashmir and its adjoining areas. They predicted that mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very hot weather in central and southern areas. However, rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and its adjoining areas.

On Thursday, rain-thunderstorm with gusty winds occurred at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Malakand, Peshawar divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. During the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Cherat (24mm), Pattan (03mm), Kalam (01mm), Garhi Dupatta (12mm), Muzaffarabad (04mm), Mangla (08mm), Mandi Bahauddin (07mm), Sialkot, Jhelum (03mm), Chakwal and Gujranwala (02mm), Bahawalpur (01mm), Lahore (01mm), Astore (08mm), Bagrote (03mm), Bunji (02mm) and Skardu and Chillas (01mm).

Thursday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Sibbi where mercury reached 50°C while in Lahore, it was 38°C, minimum was 23.5°C and humidity was 24 percent. Met officials said Thursday’s record temperature of 48°C observed in Pasni and 47°C in Ormara while earlier recorded in Pasni was 47°C and Ormara was 44.1°C on 19th May, 2002 each.
