Call to promote religious tolerance
LAHORE
Speakers at a convention held Friday on minority rights at Lahore Press Club demanded the federal government to constitute a task force for evolving a strategy of religious tolerance.
They demanded the government to take appropriate steps to ensure that hate speech in social media is discouraged and the delinquents are brought to justice under the law.
Samuel Payar said appropriate curriculum be developed at school and college levels to promote a culture of religious and social tolerance. He said a national council for minorities’ rights be constituted which should also be mandated to frame policy recommendations for safeguarding and protecting minorities’ rights by the government.
An NGO chairman Samson Salamat said a special Police Force be established with professional training to protect the worship places of minorities.
Sadia Sohail of PTI also supported it. Abdullah Malik, a social activist and others also spoke on the occasion.
