Remand granted in fraud case

LAHORE

An accountability court Friday granted 14-day physical remand of one Abdul Manaf accused of embezzling Rs10.21 million while serving as Postmaster Shorkot Cantonment.

The NAB officials produced the accused before the court and sought physical custody of the accused to carry out investigation. The court on NAB’s plea granted 14-day custody of the accused. As per details, NAB Lahore had arrested Pakistan Post’s serving Postmaster Shorkot Cantonment Abdul Manaf on charges of embezzlement of Rs10.21 million public money. The NAB Lahore received a complaint in 2016 through Postmaster General to probe the financial corruption.

Keeping in view the case tendency, NAB initiated a direct inquiry which turned into an investigation in August 2016. During the course of case proceedings, it was unearthed that the accused manipulated accounts to misappropriate Rs10.21 million. It also conducted a ground check to verify the operational methodology and examine the witnesses and account holders at Shorkot city post office.
