While stressing the importance of universities for helping Muslims deal with challenges of modern times, First Lady Begum Mehmooda Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday said violence and terrorism have nothing to do with Islam.

"Youth of Muslim world should be nurtured in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran. They should not be dissociated from the true message of Islam, which is peace," she told the closing ceremony of the ‘Memorisation and Recitation of the Holy Quran’ courses here on the Faisal Masjid Campus of the International Islamic University.

IIU Rector Dr Masoom Yasinzai, President Dr Ahmad Yousif Al-Draiweesh and senior staff members were also present on the occasion.

The first lady said by following the true spirit and teachings of Quran and Sunnah, peace and harmony could be promoted in society.

She said recitation and memorisation of the Holy Quran was a blessing, which had been repeatedly emphasised in the teachings of both Quran and Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The first lady noted with appreciation that the Darul Muneera of the IIU was rendering valuable services in imparting Quranic and Islamic teachings.

She said she was satisfied to observe that not only Pakistani female students but also students from abroad were acquiring education in Islamic teachings.

The first lady emphasised that ills and problems in society could be eradicated by promoting Quranic education and stressed that the Holy Quran should be read with translation to fully comprehend the message and meaning in order to shape lives accordingly.

She praised the IIU for promoting Islamic values and spreading Islam’s message of peace and peaceful coexistence.

The first lady commended the women's campus of the IIU for establishing a golden tradition by imparting education in the teachings of the Holy Quran and said that would inculcate the true message of Islam in the coming generations.

She congratulated female students on completing their Quranic courses and hoped that they would effectively contribute in building a progressive society by disseminating the true teachings of Islam.

She also gave away shields to students, who successfully completed their Quranic courses in the Darul Muneera.

The students who were given shields included Hafsa Bibi, Zoya Iqbal, Ayesha Siddique, Fatima Ismail, Maria Kiran and Saira Imtiaz Malik, while the teachers who got shields were Saba Rehman, Nimra Sultana, Marium Anwar, Faiza Anwar, Rehana Majeed and Shafqat Hakeem.
