LAHORE
University of Management and Technology (UMT) has appointed a nuclear scientist as its new Rector.
According to a press release, Dr Muhammad Aslam who was the rector of Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIES) from 2003 to 2016 has been appointed the second full-time rector of the university, with a four-year term. He has taken up this post replacing founding rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad who would continue his new role as the chairman of the Board of Governors and Board of Trustees of ILM Trust, on behalf of Chairman Prof Dr Khurshid Ahmad who would be acting as a guiding figure and Trustee of the Board.
Dr Muhammad Aslam is a nuclear scientist but he rendered his services to academia. He is recipient of “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” for his services to the country.
Expressing his views on the appointment of the new rector, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said the selection had been done transparently and followed due process. He solicited for the cooperation of all members of faculty and staff, advising them to fully support the new rector.
The new rector emphasised the need for unity of purpose in making the university a world class institution in terms of ranking.
