Bullet-riddled body of woman found
LAHORE
A bullet-riddled body of a 30-year-old woman was found at Iffi Chowk in Baghbanpura on Monday.
A passerby found the body and informed police. A police team reached the spot and collected forensic evidence from the scene and recorded statements of eye-witnesses. SP Rana Tahir said that the body was covered in a blanket. It had a fresh bullet injury near the chest.
Man dies: A man who had received burn injuries few days back in Lower Mall died in hospital on Monday. The victim was identified as Arshad Maseeh. Police handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities.
Body found: A body of a 35-year-old unidentified man was found in Qila Gujjar Singh on Monday. A passerby found the body and informed police. They removed the body to morgue for autopsy.
Hepatitis screening: Punjab Minister for Primary & Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir has said the government is running a comprehensive programme of prevention of diseases on which billions of rupees are being spent.
He said the chief minister’s commitment is to make Punjab a hepatitis free province and whole team of Health Department is working to materialise this target.
For this purpose hepatitis screening and vaccination week is being observed in Punjab from May 22 to 27 during which free test facility and vaccination would be provided to the common man.
He expressed these views while inaugurating hepatitis screening week at DHQ Hospital Kasur, according to a handout issued here on Monday. Besides, officers of district administration, CEO Health Kasur Dr Abdul Majeed, MS Dr Javed Iqbal and workers of PML-N were present.
Kh Imran Nazir said hepatitis screening week is being observed on the direction of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to create awareness among people to prevent them from the disease.
He said Blood Transfusion Authority has also been activated to check the blood born diseases, moreover, proper disposal of hospital’s waste, awareness among the barbers and dentists is also being created to sensitise them regarding sterilisation of instruments.
He said vaccination and treatment of hepatitis both are very costly, therefore, the government decided to celebrate hepatitis week to provide free access to health facilities to the common man. He directed the officers of the department to create maximum awareness among people and facilitate them for vaccination.
Moreover, Minister Health Kh Imran Nazir visited the DHQ Hospital. He went to different wards, medicine store, emergency, outdoor, record room etc. He inquired after the health of the patients and asked about the treatment facilities being extended to them.
MoU: Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Culture & Education Department of Chinese Overseas Exchange Association signed an MoU on Monday.
PHEC Chairperson Prof Dr Nizamuddin and Director Culture & Education Department Lei Zhengang signed the MoU, which will serve as a link between the PHEC and the Chinese Education & Culture Department and will help in sending students to China for studies. Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani and Vice Chancellors (VCs) of different universities were present.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Syed Raza Ali Gillani said the Punjab government would extend all possible cooperation to the Chinese Higher Education Department and assist in all fields of development in higher education sector.
PHEC Chairperson Prof Dr Nizamuddin said the MoU would provide a chance to cultivate the benefits of the Chinese experience and skills. He said academic collaboration with the Chinese Overseas Exchange Association would help in launching new collaborative programmes regarding Chinese language culture and education. He added students will be sent to China for learning Chinese language in October this year.
Lei Zhengang said the joint collaboration would help promote the culture and strengthen friendship. The MoU will serve our vision of One Belt, One Road (OBOR). The two parties will carry out cooperation in the form of exchange of students and teachers for various language and culture programmes, he said.
