CM approves three mega projects

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved three mega projects of irrigation and agriculture in southern districts under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Southern Areas Development Programme (KP-SADP).

The programme is being launched in Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan under a foreign-funded scheme amounting to Rs2,304.059 million. Chairing a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, he directed the officials for environmental improvement and creating jobs for local youth through the programme.

The project would irrigate additional 59,082 acres of land under the Rod-Kohi and Lift Irrigation systems, hundreds of villages would also be protected from floods devastations and erosions.

The chief minister said that the programme would contribute in boosting agricultural produce and protecting precious farm lands from erosions. Similarly, he hoped that socio-economic condition of farmers would be improved.

The chief minister was told that the programme involved three mega schemes of irrigation and agriculture wherein World Bank has provided Rs 250 million against the provincial government request of Rs260 million for the purpose.

The programme would provide jobs to 325,000 educated youth. It was decided in the meeting that the programme would be launched soon after the forthcoming monsoon season to avoid damage to construction and development work in the Rod-Kohi and lift irrigation sectors. Meanwhile, Pervez Khattak directed the quarters concerned to ensure uninterrupted work on construction of Murree-Abbottabad road.

He approved inclusion of Changa Gali alternate route in the World Bank assisted projects as well as construction of central road from the province resources. The meeting was informed about the pace of work and related issues regarding the construction, expansion of Mari-Abbottabad road, Malam Jabba Road, Changa Gali to Islamabad road and dualization of Haripur bypass road.Pervez Khattak directed authorities that work on public welfare projects should not be stopped at any cost.
