Terrorism Research Initiative

Terrorism Research Initiative (TRI), one of the largest research organisations for enhancing security through collaborative research in the field of terrorism studies, has established its Pakistan chapter at University of Management and Technology (UMT) where the varsity’s School of Governance and Society (SGS) will be collaborating with TRI in its projects.
According to a press release, recently a five-day international workshop with regard to the initiative was held where renowned national and international speakers spoke. Prominent among them were UMT Rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Director SGS Rahat ul Ain, TRI country coordinator Muhammad Feyyaz, Dr Neville Bolt from UK and Dr Richard Jackson from New Zealand.
The workshop was attended by members of the armed forces, intelligence organisations, civil society, academia and students. Addressing the conference Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said terrorism was a global issue that besides politically and militarily solutions, needed to be tackled theoretically, academically, and ideologically. He said the danger of terrorism had been looming around the world posing a serious threat to global peace and harmony and without figuring out its roots causes we could not go ahead. He applauded TRI for opening up its Pakistan chapter at UMT and anticipated that researchers, scholars and analysts together would make contributions to studying and analysing the phenomena of terrorism and present the best solution to the problem through the platform.
