LANDIKOTAL: A delegation of Pakistani transporters and businessmen on Sunday returned to Pakistan via Torkham border after holding meetings with Afghan officials and business community leaders in Nangarhar province.
Talking to reporters, head of the Pakistani delegation and president of transporters union Shakir Afridi said that they met several Afghan officials. He said they discussed various issues including the causes that had disrupted the smooth running of vehicles across the border. Shakir Afridi said thousands of trucks stranded at the Afghan side due to poor traffic management.
He said if Pakistani and Afghan officials quickly checked documentation at Torkham border it would help ensure smooth flow of traffic between the two countries. The delegation suggested that if the Torkham border gate remained open for a few extra hours it would help the stranded trucks to move towards their destinations. The Pakistani transporters appealed to both the Pakistan and Afghanistan authorities to have close coordination so that business could be expanded between the two countries.
