Rawalpindi: A young girl, Sumaira Ahmed, student of a medical college, was crushed to death due to the negligence of the driver of Metro Bus No. 61 at the Rehmanabad stop on Friday morning.
According to details gathered from witnesses, the accident occurred when the driver suddenly applied brakes while reaching the Rehmanabad stop. As a result, the girl fell out of the bus after colliding forcefully with the front windscreen of the bus, which broke into pieces.
As the bus was being operated at full speed, the girl came under the wheels and lost her life on the spot. The staff of Rescue 1122 reached the scene and shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital.As soon as the incident occurred, the bus driver tried to run away from the spot. However, with the efforts of other passengers, he was nabbed and handed over to the New Town Police, which arrived after getting information. The accident was so severe that the head and face of the girl were smashed badly.
The New Town Police have registered a case against the driver of the Metro Bus and further investigations are being made. The Chairman of the Metro Bus, Hanif Abbasi did not respond to calls.
