Many people in Karachi prefer motorcycles to ride on chocked streets of the city. It doesn’t only help riders past gridlocks during rush hour, but it is an affordable mean of transportation. However, it has been observed that the majority of motorcyclists ride at fast speed. This is one of the reasons of road accidents. According to some media reports, ‘50 percent of the people injured or killed in road accidents is motorcyclists’.
This number shows that the concerned authorities need to take notice of the situation. Previously, the government made it mandatory for motorcyclists to wear helmets. In the same way, a speed limit should be set and a speeding motorcyclist should be penalised.
