First phase of BIEK annual exams starts tomorrow

The annual intermediate examinations will commence in two phases from Friday.

The first phase of the Higher Secondary School Certificate Parts I and II (Classes XI and XII) examinations includes pre-sciences (pre-engineering and pre-medical), general science, home economics, medical technology and commerce (regular and private), Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Chairman Professor Inam Ahmed announced during a press conference held  at the board’s office on Wednesday .

The second phase of the examinations will include humanities (regular and private) and diploma in physical education. Practical examinations, according to the BIEK chief, would take place at the end of the first phase.

Ahmed said the board had already prepared and sent admit cards to all regular and private candidates.

The timings for the first phase will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, except for commerce candidates, whose papers will be from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, he said.

There are 182,032 registered candidates for the first phase, he said, adding that 118 examination centres had been designated for the morning shift and 104 centres for the afternoon shift.

The chairman said professors who will perform vigilance duties during the examinations had been shortlisted. One monitoring cell will work at the commissioner’s office while two other cells will be at the BIEK, he added.

Ahmed said that there will be super vigilance teams observing the examinations; 54 in the morning shift and 49 in the afternoon shift.

Commenting on security, the BIEK chief said police, Rangers and relevant officials from the Sindh government had been asked to provide foolproof security and to impose Section 144 in the vicinity of the examination centres.

The chairman said K-Electric had been requested to exempt examination centres from power cuts during exam timings.

He warned that the BIEK will take strict action on any employee found to be negligent during or after the examinations.
