KAMOKE/JHANG/MULTAN/NOWSHERA: Rain-related incidents have claimed at least 12 lives in scattered parts of the country while several others have sustained injuries.
Four people were killed in Nowshera and Jhang due to wall collapse and lightning. Four of a family died after roof of a dilapidated house collapsed in Kamonki, rescue workers said. The deceased included two women and two minors.
Meanwhile, streams have been flooded and traffic system crippled as rain continued in Khyber Agency on second consecutive day. Land sliding has forced closure of Karakoram Highway in Kohistan and Khunjerab while several vehicles have been struck there.
In another incident, a high tension power transmission wire fell on an under-construction house in Sheikhupura’s Rachna Town. As a consequence, six labourers who were working on the site were electrocuted. They were shifted to a hospital wherein three of them were pronounced dead upon arrival. The deceased labourers were identified as Asif. Rizwan and Muzammil.
Intermittent rainfall has turned weather pleasant in different parts of the country including Lahore, Faisalabad, Kasur, Peshawar, Mardan and Nowshera. MET department has forecasted that current spell of rainfall will continue in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan till today (Monday).
