Road to progress

By our correspondents
April 24, 2017

The reconstruction of the Mianwali-Esa Khel road was long overdue. It was very difficult for the traffic to move smoothly on this rough, patchy and worn-out road. In the past, it would take about two and a half hours to cover the distance of 100 km because of the poor condition of the road. The concerned authorities paid attention to the shoddy condition of the road and vowed to rebuild the vital road that connects Punjab with KP. The reconstruction of the road was duly completed, however ever since the overhauling of the road; the number of accidents on the road has increased. During the last couple of months, about a dozen casualties were reported on this road. Last week, a family of three died when a speeding car hit their vehicle. Reckless driving is the major cause of these accidents.

The authorities concerned are requested to do the needful and address the precarious situation on this road. The people should also be made aware with the significance of road safety; under-age drivers should be booked; driving licence of careless and over-speeding drivers should be cancelled and the drivers should fined heavily, speed-breakers should be installed near populated areas, traffic rules by the traffic police should be enforced strictly in true letter and spirit. By ensuring the above-mentioned measures, one hopes that the Mianwali-Isakhel road will become a safe and secure road for commuters.
